The Route

The plan is to leave from Denver Colorado the weekend before the All Ford show on Sunday May 29th, 2011 and arrive on Thursday June 2nd in time for check in.  It will be a 1600 mile trip, which translates into 5 days traveling approximately 320 miles per day.  Leave on Sunday, arrive on Thursday. 5-1/2 hours drive time per day, traveling at 55 miles per hour. This does not include, stops for gas, food, photos, repairs, interviews, etc. So figure on an 8 to 10 hour day. We do plan on doing some sites along the way so check out this link and tell me where you would like to stop at along I-70 www.roadsideamerica.com

Day 1, May 29th,2011

This is our possible starting point, where the transcontinental railroad actually met! Not where history stated it happened. It may be a fitting beginning since the Pinto's reputation in history too will be one of many false recollections.

The first stop will be at the Wonder Tower!!!  Oooohhhh! sounds scary.  Actually it is a Tower in the middle of no where, a corny roadside attraction, that sounds perfect for a convoy of Pintos.

We plan to stop for the night somewhere around Elsworth Kansas .

Day 2, May 30th, 2011

The Atomic Cannon, finally, something to make us forget Pintos are Combustible.

A Howitzer Cannon that used to fire a Nuclear Warhead!  That's right.  Click on the Pick for the Video! Check out the link below for more information. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2RO6lo84Hc

Or we could visit Sub-Terra Castle , the missile silo turned into a home.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no6MeqQw3f8  Hippies living in a missle silo! Can't pass this up. Maybe we could do both?

We plan to stop for the night around Columbia Missouri .

Day 3, May 31st, 2011

Make a  stop off at the home of Bigfoot the original Monster truck.  A Ford stop along the way for the Blue Oval faithful. (day 3, Tuesday)

Or we could climb a giant pile of nuclear waste, that may be something to talk about as we glow around the campfire. (also Day 3)

We plan to stop for the night around Indianapolis , Indiana .

Day 4, June 1st, 2011

We are hoping for a visit and trip around the raceway to start day 4, more on that if it becomes a reality. We also will be picking up quite a few more Pintos here from the Northern sector.

Visit the national museum for the United States Air Force. We could spend some time here, lots to see. Planes you will never see anywhere else in a vast collection.  Might make a nice break in the day just past the midway point of the trip. (Day 4, Wednesday) Click the picture for the video or the link below for more information vhttp://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/10789

We plan to stop for the night around Cambridge , Ohio .

Day 5, June 2nd, 2011

Here we will meet up with Harley and the Ohio Pintos on their way out. more Pintos the Merrier.

Make a stop to pay our respects at the flight 93 crash site memorial.  It may be a somber moment, but we need to give thanks to those brave individuals who fought back and showed Americans are still strong.  After we say Thanks, it will be on to the last leg of the trip and maybe the one we do the most thinking.

Then it is on to the last stop, Carlisle, fun, fords, Pintos, food, swap meets, & just plain hanging out. I look forward to traveling along side you all, it will not be easy, I hope it will be fun.  I hope this is something we will cherish for the rest of our lives and I hope it will make a difference in at least one persons life that sacrificed and suffered for the American way of life.

If you wish to come in from California, North or South, it is a half a day out of your way to do the start from Denver if you are driving out.  I think it will be worth the trip since you probably will never travel with a convoy of Pintos again in your lifetime.
