A Note From Jim Madison:
Over a half a dozen Pintos gathered together for this awesome event. We camped
at Rock Cut State Park in a group & enjoyed each others company. I donated a
Pinto to the group so they could make the groups own "Wounded Pinto." The first
day we all got out the paint and turned my old red parts car into a good looking
Wounded Warrior Mobile. Painted army green and decorated with American flags the
"Wounded Pinto" joined us on a 100 mile tour of northern Illinois that included:
State parks, car shows, a Drive-In and a local Ford dealer . The Rock River Block
Ford dealer cleared off his entire front line so we could display our Pintos in
style! The general manager presented a check for $1000 to us for the Wounded
Warrior Project! We had a great time all weekend and even had other Pinto lovers
stop us, chat & tell Pinto stories . I even had to jump start a Illinois State
Trooper squad car while we at one of the car shows. The camera phones popped out
and a good laugh was had.
Brian Campbell drove the furthest from Hibbing Minnesota. He brought his red 1978
Pinto Hatchback and pulled his 1965 Apache camper, very cool combo! He provided everyone of us
with an award of an presentation binder with Pinto information & photos of past
Stampede events.
Mark and Karen Goodman drove a 1978 Pinto squire wagon that is an outstanding
looking car. Mark and Karen provided the entertainment both nights by bringing a
projector and screen. We all sat under the stars had popcorn and movie candy and
watched American Graffiti and the Blues Brothers. We all pitched in and bought
steaks & chops that the Goodman's prepared for us. Karen even cooked a big
breakfast for us on the morning we departed.
Dave and Donna Kawa drove a 1978 Pinto cruisin wagon, that he bought new, towing
his Coleman camper. He has great stories of driving his car all over America
since it was new. He has driven his wagon over 11000 miles just this summer. He
even drove it over 1000 miles back to the original Ford dealer he bought it
from to get a $1000 WWP donation! and he was also on the original Stampede.
Steve and Beth Madison drove the Wounded Warrior Pinto. Steve (my son) grew up in the back
seat in my Pinto & currently doesn't own one. He has been looking for one and
is looking forward to future Stampede events. Steve & Beth have taken over my old
green rig after this event having a great time cruising.
I still drive the red 1979 wagon my Dad bought new, I have driven this car for over 30
summers and covered 10 states just this year! My wife Doreen has a blue 1977
Pinto sedan that she bought and did a mild restroration on. Me and my wife have
had over 20 Pintos Through all the years & currently have four.
The Illinois 911 Stampede event was a great success. The weather cooporated and everyone
had a nice time. More than $2200 was raised for the Wounded Warrior Project
with thanks to the Rock River Block
in Rockford, Illinios for thier generous donation and support. The Bullet Stop Gun Shop
also held a fund raising event to support the Wounded Warriors.
I want to thank all who came and all that supported us,
